What I learned this year

This year I learned that my  blogging will need to take place after my kids leave.  Because while they are here all I want to do is soak up every minute I can with them!!  Blogging on Sunday night!!

Day Two -- Wednesday, November 21st

Most of us were up early -- 6:00 or 6:30 -- for Dennis this is a result of living in a different time zone -- for me it's because me new job has me up early -- but early is good.  I sent Nick from the couch to my bed to sleep -- but he declined and got up to start helping.

We got the breakfast casserole in the oven and then brought the TURKEY up so we could get t he brine process started.  This year I used the lobster pot -- lined with two oven roasting bags.  We plopped the turkey in and made the brine in batches.  Then it was back to the downstairs frig for Mr. Turkey.

We sat down to to breakfast about 8:00am, all except for Miranda, we agreed she could use the extra sleep.  She was actually awake about a half an hour later, just as we were finishing.

We have discussed a movie for today -- but no one it too excited about it.  So I think we will just make some of our side dished for tomorrow, today and enjoying hanging out together -- we will see.

That's all for now -- more later...

Tuesday, November 20th, 2012 -- Day One!!

It's here, it's finally here again -- Thanksgiving!!!  If we are honest this is not really day one...day one started when I picked Miranda up from Valpo (Friday night).  This has been the first year with everyone gone -- so Thanksgiving brings them all home again and will be even more special than usual. But I digress...

Tuesday began with me working at McCabe's where I received a beautiful fall flowering mum plant and a heartfelt card -- I have the best employers!!!  When work was done I picked Miranda up and we headed to O'Hare to pick up Dennis.  We were running just a bit late, so Dennis stopped and picked up Garrett's for us at the airport.  This saved a trip through the loop.

Next was a drive to Lincoln Park to collect Nick.  He was just finishing his last final and we wanted to meet him at his apartment so Dennis could see where he is living.  Got to Lincoln Park just a few moments before Nick.  We spent some time visiting with Nick's roommate Chris while Nick had a phone interview with Robomodo for a student internship.

Then it was back in the car for the drive home.  Traffic was not as bead as it could have been, considering it was 4:00pm -- rush hour in Chicago.  In fact Dennis and I noticed there was more traffic headed into the city than out -- rather odd.  We stopped by Walt's to pick up the TURKEY and then we were home!!

We had thought about Grady's for dinner -- but decided appetizers would be more fun.  So while Nick cued up some musicals on Spotify Miranda and I began the rye bread dip.  Terry was still working at taekwodno, but it was still wonderful to have both kids at home -- cooking and singing like no time at all had passed!!   Once the rye bread dip was in the oven we put potatoes in for skins and then made some cocktail meatballs.  Snacking , drinking, and general merriment was well underway!!!

Terry arrived home around nine -- just as potato skins were coming out of the oven!!  Miranda and I prepared the breakfast casserole and then we all relaxed until we were falling asleep.  Time for some shut eye for everyone!!
